Doggie Care

At about 2:00 pm on Sunday afternoon, March 19th, 2006 the Placer County Sheriff contacted Ray and Scoop regarding assisting in a rescue for a broken leg at the Ludlow Hut. By 2:30 the story had been refined to indicate that the broken leg belonged to a dog, and that El Dorado County was handling the incident. Around 2:45 the Nordic Team was paged to request our support. The report was that seven people (and dog) had snowshoed and skied to the Ludlow Hut the day before. The dog had fallen through the hatch from the upper floor in the hut and broken a leg. The rest of the party had come out and tried to find someone to recover dog and owner and ended up in contact with the Sheriff, who offered assistance.

Three Nordic Team snowmobilers and the team snowcat responded in addition to two El Dorado snowmobiles and command post support. All teams made their way up the Miller Lake Road as they arrived. The going was difficult due to the deep soft snow and numerous open creeks, but by around 5:00 pm the snowmobilers had made it to the Hut. They transported dog and owner to the Snowcat which had made it as far as the Lake Richardson turn off from the Miller Lake Road. All then returned to the trailhead without incident. All teams out of the field by 6:30 P.M.
