Diamond Peak Snowboarder
At about 8:00 pm, as a 24" storm was just dissipating, TNSAR was dispatched to help find a missing skier at Diamond Peak Ski Area. Upon arrival the team was assigned the search area of Golden Eagle Bowl down to the Ponderosa Ranch.
8 skiers and 3 patrollers were transported by grooming machine to the top of the mountain and started searching down into the Bowl and past the boundary rope line. After about 45 minutes, a combination boot and snowboard track was found and was followed down to one of the very small Ponderosa Ranch cabins, where Ryan, a 35 year old snowboarder, was found drying out and warming up over a small fire he'd built using a flint he found in the lightly stocked cabin. Ryan was in good shape and the decision was made to hike him out to the bottom of the canyon on snowshoes, which occurred without incident, under a clear, beautiful sky. All participants were back at Diamond Peak Ski Area at 12:30. Here is the press release from Diamond Peak and the article from the Reno Gazette Journal.
