10 snowshoers at Ludlow Hut

Submitted by Dirk Schoonmaker

With forecasts calling for a large storm over the weekend, 10 snowshoers decided to go to the Ludlow Hut. The storm persisted through Saturday and brought about 4 feet of snow. When they tried to walk out on Sunday, they were only able to get about 2 miles in 6 hours, so called for help. The snowcat, 3 skiers and 2 snowmobilers responded. After 2 hours working up the Miller Lake Road the snowcat rendezvoused with the 10 very relieved snowshoers who had by then walked for 12 hours, trying to stay warm and follow the obscured trail. They were transported out without incident through very deep snow.
