Tahoe Nordic Search & Rescue, Inc

The sun has set on TNSAR's 2015-2016 winter season, but not without one last interruption. On the evening of the last meeting, a search was called for a missing biker (turned hiker) north of Tahoe City. This would be our 15th search of the season (which officially doesn't end until Oct 1 2016), which means that with the exception of the 2010-2011 season (which saw 21 searches), the 15 searches of the 2015-2016 winter season might very well be the second busiest season on record with TNSAR (need to do a little homework to confirm).

And that amount of engagement is just not possible without an executive staff (how is that for a segue?) managing the team through it all. After May elections, the makeup of the staff looks like this:

President:   Chris McConnell
Vice President:   Devin Hiemstra
Secretary:   Joanna Wright
Director:   Scott Meyer
Director:   Paul Kitano

Congratulations to Chris, Devin, Joanna, Scott, and Paul. And a nod of the head to outgoing executives Troy Corliss and Paul Honeywell for their service to the team this year!

Trainings are posted! Every now and then a random summer training is scheduled, so signup for email notices to stay abreast.

Note that all the trainings, search reports, and newsletter from any particular season (past or present) are under the "Archives" menu drop down at the top of any page.

TNSAR has a wealth of pictures, taken mostly from trainings. If any pictures were taken on a training, you will find them under the annual training archives (see the drop down menu at the top) for that particular training (note that Internet Explorer does not [yet] display these pictures; yet another reason to try a web browser other than IE). Additionally, you can also look at all the organized pictures on one page.

TNSAR is always looking for fresh faces and new enthusiasm. We are a team of broad roles, interests and needs, to include but not limited to:

  • Searchers (skiers and sledders)
  • Comm Van personnel
  • Truck caretakers
  • Administrative
  • Public Relations
  • Grant and Donation management
  • WWW management
  • TGSR (the list here is endless)

If you are interested in any of these types of roles, or generally interested in TNSAR, please show up at the next general meeting to get your questions answered. The majority of the team representatives are not searchers; we have a variety of needs and seats for all. Come check us out!

Tahoe Nordic Search and Rescue is proud to have been chosen the Non-Profit Organization of the year from the North Lake Tahoe Chamber of Commerce and the North Lake Tahoe Resort Association for 2015.
